This is proven and tested.
One should NOT pamper loved ones with gifts or surprises.
Why one may ask?
Cos the recievers would then EXPECT gifts from you at a regular basis and they dont want normal gifts anymore.
Normal? - Normal, simple, everyday stuff that you happen to come by and reminds you of someone and makes you feel like, ok i shall get this for her cos i just feel like buying it. And then you realise that she doesnt appreciate your gift.
And i know one may love their partner (to death for some). Still same rules apply. Its advisable NOT to surprise or buy them gifts when you feel like it. Maybe you should wait for them to buy you something first then you can get them something as a thank you present. But do not volunteer to get them anything FIRST.
Tell me how now to get angry.
UPDATE : See now that someone is offended cos i brought this up with him. Cos he's expecting me to buy him things (its with an S) that he wants. I do not know what he's trying to prove by saying "Its ok la i wont ask or take anything from you anymore.. even for food."
Now super angry.
